  1. When is Worship? Worship is weekly on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. We offer in person and online worship.

  2. What is the style of worship at First UMC? We are mainly traditional with organ and piano music together with exceptional vocal and bell choirs. The spirit of worship is genuine and welcoming. The pastor’s messages connect the Bible and life.

  3. Do I have to wear special clothes to worship? No! Come as you are. We are interested in you, not in your appearance.

  4. How does worship fit in with the rest of your ministry? We feel called by God to prioritize worship, address food insecurity, homelessness, and elder ministry. We joyfully partner with other organizations to accomplish this missional outreach. As of 2026, over 90% of our people are engaged in one or more of our missions.

  5. What are your members like? We live in Massillon and greater Stark County. People come from diverse backgrounds. Members are genuine, community-minded, and express Christ’s love in warm, caring ways.

  6. What about Bible Study, small groups or special events? We offer several studies, concerts, and lecture series through the course of the year. Look at our calendar and events pages for topics and times. You don’t have to belong to participate.

  7. When did this church start? We are the oldest church in this community founded in 1810 two years before Massillon was created. Fire destroyed the building in 1892. Just one year later, we had rebuilt the present church. A spirit of resilience, energy, and renewal characterizes the people of this congregation.

  8. How do I get involved? Come to worship. Talk with the pastor. We are willing to help you discover a place to belong and make a difference.
